Resonance Works returns to the historic Heinz Memorial Chapel for two performances of one of the most stunning works in the choral repertoire, Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil. Composed in 1915, with World War I raging and Russia on the verge of collapse, All-Night Vigil asks us to sit with our grief, uncertainty, or hope, and to trust that the morning will come.
These concerts are dedicated to the memory of Pittsburgh musical legend, conductor and educator Robert Page, in honor of his 100th birthday.

About the concerts:
Composed in less than two weeks in the winter of 1915, as World War I raged and Russia teetered on the brink of revolution, Rachmaninoff's choral masterpiece has endured for over a century as one of the most transcendent works in the entire classical canon. A setting of fifteen texts from the Russian Orthodox liturgy, All-Night Vigil moves from the quiet introspection of Vespers through the drama of Matins toward the light of dawn, weaving together ancient chant melodies with Rachmaninoff's unique harmonic language.
Our Resonance Works Festival Chorus brings this extraordinary work to life in the iconic setting and acoustic of Heinz Memorial Chapel that lets every voice—and every silence—resonate.
These performances are dedicated to the memory of Robert Page, one of Pittsburgh's most beloved and consequential musical figures, on the occasion of his centennial. A Grammy-award winner, Page’s legendary career included 26 years as music director of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, director of special projects and choral activities with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, assistant conductor and director of choruses for the Cleveland Orchestra, and music director of the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, preparing choruses for the Philadelphia Orchestra for 19 years. He shaped generations of musicians, especially singers and conductors, through his teaching at Carnegie Mellon University, Temple University, and Rowan University, and was a transformational mentor to our Artistic & General Director, Maria Sensi Sellner.
