More about the show
CINDERELLA features a new expanded English version by long-time ResWorks collaborator Ben Robinson, which reimagines the Fairy Godmother as Viardot herself and the pianist as her dear friend, famed composer Frédéric Chopin. Acclaimed soprano Emily Pulley directs the production and stars as the Fairy Godmother/Viardot, bringing decades of experience from the top opera companies across the U.S. Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist alum Shannon Jennings and Pittsburgh native Donovan Elliot Smith star as Cinderella and Prince Charming, making their Resonance Works debuts alongside soprano Katy Lindhart as sassy stepsister Maguelonne and tenor Gabriel Hernandez as the Prince’s right hand, Count Barigoule. Rounding out Cinderella’s not-so-functional family are long-time favorites Gillian Hassert and Patrick McNally. Rob Frankenberry brings his multidimensional talent to the piano as Frédéric Chopin, and in creating a new trio arrangement which will also feature violinist Maureen Conlon Gutierrez and cellist Elisa Kohanski.
Composer and celebrated international singer Pauline Viardot-Garcia was a central musical figure in late-19th century Europe. Among her numerous compositions are five salon operas, which she often presented in her home. Written when Viardot was 83, Cendrillon premiered in her Paris salon on April 23, 1904.
On Friday and Saturday, guests are encouraged to arrive between 7-7:30pm to enjoy cocktails from Bar Marco, hors d'oeuvres, and party entertainment, from which the opera will emerge. Sunday’s festivities include fairy tale crafts and photo ops with the cast.
Join us October 27, 28, and 29 for this fun and flirty take on CINDERELLA! We promise to have you home by midnight.
“There is nothing more interesting, nothing more moving than to feel that you have an entire audience in the hollow of your hand, laughing when you laugh, and weeping when you sob...”
— PAULINE VIARDOT-GARCÍA
